A Step-by-Step Guide to Selecting Photos for Your Fur-Ever Friend Memory Book

Creating a Fur-Ever Friend Memory Book is a beautiful way to honour your beloved pet and celebrate the memories you shared. Choosing the perfect photos can feel overwhelming—especially after they have passed—so I’ve put together this guide to help make the process easier and more meaningful.

1. Start Early, If Possible

If your pet is still with you, I highly recommend selecting photos now rather than waiting. It can be incredibly difficult to go through photos after they have passed, and emotions can make the process much harder. Taking the time to organize and choose your favourites now will make creating your book a much smoother experience later.

2. Decide on Your Approach: By Year or By Theme

There are two main ways to organize your selection:

🔹 By Year: Choose the best photos from each year of your pet’s life. This approach helps showcase their journey with you over time.

🔹 By Theme: Group photos based on different categories, such as:

  • Personality Moments – Sitting, sleeping, playing, zoomies!
  • Special Places – At home, the park, the beach, in the car.
  • With Loved Ones – Photos with you, family, or furry friends.

You can also use a mix of both methods, selecting a variety of photos that capture your pet’s full story.

3. Do an Initial Sweep

Start by going through your photos and selecting all of your favourites—this can be a large batch to begin with. Once you have a good collection, start refining by removing similar shots and keeping only the most meaningful and best-quality images.

4. Narrow It Down Thoughtfully

The book allows for either 15 or 20 personal images (more can be added for an additional fee). If you have too many, try these strategies to help narrow them down:

✔️ Pick the best from each category or location – If you have multiple photos of your pet sleeping, keep the one that speaks to you the most.

✔️ Get a second opinion – Ask a family member or friend to help select their favourites from your shortlist.

✔️ Ask for my guidance – If you’re struggling to decide, I’m happy to help! I’ll consider lighting, angle, and overall print quality to recommend the best options.

5. Final Selection & Editing

Every photo you choose will be professionally reviewed and edited to ensure it looks its best in print. Take your time—if you need to step away for a while, that’s okay. Some clients find it takes weeks or even months to go through their photos, especially when grieving. There is no rush—your pet’s story deserves to be told beautifully.

6. Enjoy the Process

While choosing photos can be emotional, it’s also an opportunity to relive special moments and reflect on the love you shared. This book is a tribute to your pet’s life, capturing their spirit in a way that will last forever.
