Some pets are big personalities. Some are small but mighty. And sometimes… you have several furry, feathery, or even scaly family members that you’d love to see in one frame – without the chaos of getting them all to sit together.
That’s where our Boxed-In Photoshoots shine! This unique style of portraiture lets us capture each pet individually in their own “box,” then bring them together in a gorgeous montage that looks like a fun, connected grid of personalities. It’s the ulti-mutt way to feature multiple pets… but it works just as well for a solo star, too! 🐾
🛠 How We Create the Magic
While the final artwork looks effortless and playful, the process behind it is precise – part art, part science. Here’s a peek behind the scenes:
The Box – A large, square box is our stage. It’s clean, bright, and perfect for letting your pet’s personality shine.
Positioning is Everything – The camera must be positioned exactly in the middle of the box, dead-on, with no tilt or angle. We always use a sturdy tripod to keep it locked in place for the entire session.
Marking the Magic – We place discreet tape on the floor at each corner of the box, as well as on the tripod and light stand positions. This means if anything moves (we’re looking at you, zoomies 🐶), we can return it to the exact same spot instantly.
Lighting the Scene – Consistent, even lighting is crucial so every box image blends seamlessly into the final montage. The lights are kept in fixed positions throughout the shoot.
Capturing Connection – We photograph each pet individually or in pairs in their box, and we encourage playful interactions – looking toward another box, reaching a paw or nose over the edge, or playing with props that make it look like they’re connecting with their “neighbours” in the final artwork.
